Magazine File Tutorial

I promised a tutorial on how to make the magazine file.  This will be our project at the next club meeting.  I can just see these lined up above my desk with all my cards.  They are fun to make – a bit confusing at first, but once you have made one they go fast!!

And here's 4 I made recently

F22

I used Barely Banana Textured Card Stock and Sage Shadow Textured Card Stock along with some striped colors from DSP Kaleidoscope and Nouveau Chic.

TUTORIAL

Supplies:

1 piece of 12 x 12 Card Stock (I prefer textured)

1 piece of matching Designer Series Paper

Snail

1 – Hodgepodge Hardware square holder and 2 matching brads

1" piece of Whisper White Card Stock

Whatever words you would like for your file – I used Teeny Tiny Wishes and Stampin' Write Markers:  for example "Birthday", "Thank You", Anniversary", "Get Well."

Cut  12 x 12 card stock to 12 x 11.

Score  card stock at 4 1/2" and 6 1/2" on the 11" side

Score card stock at 6" and 10 1/2" on the 12" side

F1

Here's a piece I put all the measurements on

File1

Cut on each score line into the center as above

F2

You will now cut the top 3/4" in from the centers and 2 1/4" up from the 6" score line as below.  I made small marks at the above measurements and then lined those up on my paper cutter.  You can see those little marks if you enlarge the picture below!

F4

And this is what your card stock will look like after these cuts

F5

Next you need to score 2 1/4" in on each side between the 6" and 10 1/2" score lines

F8

and the second side

 F9

And this is what your card stock looks like now

F10

Crease on all score lines.  Next fold up the bottom pieces into the upper portion

F7

Apply snail (or Sticky Strip) to the outside pieces of the 5 1/2" piece that is scored at 2 1/4"

F10

Fold these pieces over the end pieces as below

F11

F12

F13

This is what your piece will look like now

F14

Now turn the card stock over and place the bottom of the box up and the top of the box flat (right side up)

F15

Apply snail or sticky trip on both sides as per picture

F16

Now bring your top pieces into the bottom of the box and adhere

F17

Your box is complete and now just needs some embellishment

Cut two pieces of DSP 12" x 1 3/4" and 3" x 1 3/4"

F18

Apply the 3" x 1 3/4"  piece on the back of the file with 1/2" on each side and wrap around the back

F19

Fold 3/8" of the 12" x 1 3/4" piece of DSP and wrap that 3/8" piece around the back and then around the front and crease at each corner.  Apply snail on both ends and around front (leaving the top of the front piece without snail).

F20

Adhere to the file starting at the back, around the front and around to the back.

F21

Stamp your saying on the 1" Whisper White piece and adhere to the front with snail.  Then apply your Square Hodgepodge Hardward.

This is definitely not easy to show in pictures, and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at janinpb@cbbmail.com.

Hope you have fun making these!
