Origami Folded Wreath Tutorial

I had a fun challenge this last weekend.  We were to make these Origami Folded Wreaths.  So, while having fun I made up a tutorial!!

I would love to see if you make these – so many choices of beautiful designer papers.

Here's one and then the tutorial and more samples

I used Ski Slope Designer Paper for this one (112994, page 12, 2008 Holiday Mini)

Origami Folded Wreath Tutorial

Wreath1

Cut out 8 pieces of two-sided designer series paper. I'm using Bella Rosa (112041, page 168) for this example.  Dimensions are 4" x 2".  You can use any size making the length twice as long as the width (i.e. 3" x 1 1/2"; 5" x 2 1'2" etc.)

Wreath2

Score and fold all 8 pieces in half lengthwise.  I folded 4 with the flower outside and 4 with the brown and white dots outside (see below)

Wreath3

Wreath4

Next fold each piece in half again lengthwise as below

Wreath5

Always use your bone folder to make good creases

Wreath6

Wreath7

With the fold at the bottom, and the open edge at the top, fold each corner down to the fold as above

Wreath8

You now have 8 pieces that should look like the above and below.  Remember the fold is on the bottom and the open is at the top with the corners folded down.

Wreath9

Wreath10

Holding one piece with the points, insert the points of the second pieced into the little "pockets" of the first one.  Push them down in (but don't worry about pushing too hard – they will be adjusted when they are all together)

Wreath11

Repeat this process until all pieces have been inserted.

Wreath13

This is what it will look like before inserting the first one.  Insert #1 square into #8 as with all the previous ones.

Wreath14

Wreath15

Adjust your pieces so that they make a nice octogan in the center

Wreath16

Punch a hole and add some cord or ribbon.

Use as a picture frame!!

And then I used a couple of wreaths to add as embellishments to cards

Stamp Set:  Snow Swirled (111690, page 32)

Card Stock:  Baja Breeze, Ski Slope Designer Paper (112994, page 12, 2008 Holiday Mini)

Ink: Silver Encore Pad (101039, page 193), Silver Embossing Powder (109131, page 190

For the wreath I cut 8 pieces of 3" x 1 1/2" Ski Slope Designer Paper.  I didn't reverse half the paper, but just used the Baja Breeze large snow flake side.  I love the way it turned out.
