Herringbone Technique
Have you seen the technique called Herringbone. Shelly, my downline shared a card with me, so this became one our projects at our monthly club meeting!! A fun technique and a GREAT way to use up your scraps from designer series paper. Hate to waste that beautiful paper.
We used the Springtime Vintage Designer Series paper and each club member either a "blue" card or a "rose red" card. Just love the fact that the Springtime Vintage DSP has such a great variety of colors.
Here's a little tutorial on how to do the Herringbone Technique
First the cards we made
Supplies used in cards
Stamp Set: Bliss (WM 1218541, CM 123217, page 10 Sale-A-Bration Catalog)
Card Stock: Rose Red, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Very Vanilla
Ink: Rose Red, Baja Breeze
Embellishments: Vintage Flower Adornments (121879, page 15 Occasions Mini 2011)
Punch: Decorative Label Punch (120907, page 30 Occasions Mini 2011)
Big Shot: Elegant Bouquet Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (115964, page 214)
Tutorial for Herringbone Technique
Supplies:
Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper (121782, page 15 Occasions Mini 2011). You can use ANY DSP, Cut strips approximately ½”, 3/8” (actually any sizes you want)
Card Stock: Very Vanilla piece cut 2” x 4”
Sticky Pages (1143200, page 205) Piece cut 2” x 4”
Paper Snips (103579, page 199)

Step 1. Apply Very Vanilla card stock to one side of sticky page

Step 2. Take off other side of sticky page – this is where you apply your strips
Step 3. Apply one piece of DSP across the sticky page
Step 4. The next steps will fill in the areas around the first strip. Start by adding one strip perpendicular to the first piece. Then add the second piece to shape a “V”.

Step 5. Now carefully turn your piece over and snip off the pieces along the sides with paper snips
When you flip it back, this is what it looks like after snipping.
Step 6. Add another “V” in this same area
Do this until you have filled in the complete area.
Step 7. Next fill in each section
This is what it will like when you are done
Add this piece to your card. Easy??? And a great way to use up scrap DSP.
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial – would love to see what you create!

Hi Jan,
This is a lovely way to make a huge impression card-wise and use up left over paper! I love this idea.
Thanks for sharing.
